04 January 2008 Rural motorists targeted in roads crackdown
Police in Tayside are to clamp down on the number of motorists speeding on rural roads in the area, it has been reported.According to the BBC, the Safety Camera Partnership is looking to educate drivers on how to behave on countryside highways.
It may be that as a result the number of accidents prevented sees the cost of car insurance in the area drop.
The news source adds that seven out of every ten collisions occur on countryside highways, with young and inexperienced motorists particularly at risk.
"The latest rural roads initiative staged only last month by Tayside Police saw a number of crass acts of stupidity on our roads," commented David Farmer, safety camera manager.
Meanwhile in Cumbria, Whitehaven News reports that the county recorded fewer deaths over the course of 2007 compared to 2006, with 44 fatalities reported against 60 the previous year.
