27 December 2007 Police warn drink-drivers
Drivers in the Scottish Highlands are being warned that police efforts to crack down on drink driving will continue beyond the festive season.Northern Constabulary launched a Festive Road Safety campaign on December 7th urging drivers to consider the possible impacts of driving under the influence of alcohol.
As the campaign draws to a close it is reminding those who believe they can get away with drink driving that police will continue to carry out intelligence-led patrols and breathalyser tests into the new year.
Inspector John Smith, head of the force's road policing section, said: "If the perception by some is that it's worth the risk and they think they won't be caught we are advising drivers to think again. Don't risk it."
According to the government's road safety website THINK! almost one in six of all road deaths involve drivers who are over the legal alcohol limit.
As well as putting lives at risk drink drivers also chance higher car insurance premiums as a result of accidents and licence points.
