19 December 2007 West Yorkshire Police 'get tough with rogue drivers'
Drivers who flout the law on roads in West Yorkshire are to be targeted by officials over the winter period, it has been reported.Inspector Ron Jones from the local constabulary commented that there are only a few motorists breaking the rules, but they will be punished.
Last year, officers caught out people for 1,900 offences including driving without car insurance or after they had been banned from the road, the Halifax Courier reports.
This could result in higher cover policies if firms judge motorists to be a risk.
"People who ignore traffic laws and make driving inconvenient, even hazardous, for other road users can cause accidents that could lead to people being seriously injured, if not killed," the official commented.
Meanwhile, Doncaster Today reports that 81 motorists from 3,326 stopped failed breath tests during the first two weeks of December.
This figure is down from the 148 caught out during the same period last year.
