17 December 2007 Rydedale motorists made example of in speed crackdown
A number of drivers were stopped in Rydedale by officers looking to send a message to speeding motorists, a local news source has claimed.York Press reports that those caught were given the option of a fixed penalty or a refresher course on the dangers of the act as part of its Operation Siren campaign.
For the 30 people clocked at more than 30 mph on December 12th, it may be that they now face higher car insurance policies.
This is because some cover companies may judge them to be a risk on the road.
North Yorkshire Police community safety officer PC Terry Triffitt commented that the initiative "is a great way to alert drivers".
"In the festive period, it is especially pertinent to draw attention to the dangers of careless and inconsiderate driving," he said.
Department for Transport figures show that 3,150 people were killed on UK roads last year.
