13 December 2007 Motorists 'touch and kiss their cars'

Motorists get intimate with their cars! Drivers in the UK may be closer to their vehicles than had been thought, it has been reported.

A survey from What Car? shows that over a third of motorists name their cars, with 43 per cent of those in Northern Ireland likely to do it.

Similarly, 60 per cent of people have admitted that they talk to their automobiles on occasion, an act psychologist Christina Gaitanou says is normal.

She said: "The act of talking to a car reflects that a relationship exists between a person and their car."

"This behaviour shows how people can become attached to objects that they possess," the expert added.

However, it may be that an overly chatty motorist risks their car insurance policy by not paying enough attention to the road.

Meanwhile, the BBC reports that a woman died when she was hit by a car after she fell from her vehicle.
