13 December 2007 Pub ban for drink-drivers
Motorists who drink and drive could be banned from pubs as part of a new police initiative, it has been reported. The Morning Advertiser states that Newcastle Borough Council and Staffordshire police are looking to introduce the scheme at 24 pubs in Newcastle-Under-Lyme.
It may be that this is an extra punishment for those who pick up a motoring conviction, as they could also be hit with a large car insurance bill.
This is because some cover companies may view their actions as particularly dangerous and increase prices as a result.
"There are still people who believe it is acceptable to drink and then get behind the wheel," said Councillor Phil Maskery.
He added: "These drivers not only put themselves in danger but they are also a danger to other road users and pedestrians."
