06 December 2007 24 speeders caught per day in North Yorkshire

North Yorkshire police have released new speeding figures. Close to 24 people were cautioned for breaking the speed limit on roads in North Yorkshire every day over the past 12 months, according to new statistics.

Officers in the region stated that this is down by nearly 3,000 a year on figures recorded in 1997, the York Press states.

This could mean that the cost of a car insurance policy in the area has also fallen, as cover firms may set prices for the county based on the behaviour of its drivers.

In total, the news source reported that there were 8,710 drivers handed fixed penalty notices from November 1st 2006 to October 31st 2007.

Steve Galloway, City of York council leader, commented that one way to reduce the problem is by installing more speed cameras.

Meanwhile, Department for Transport statistics show that 3,150 people were killed on roads in the UK last year.
