04 December 2007 Cars taken off the road in police initiative
Motorists in Bolton driving a car on local highways illegally were the target of a programme from police in the area.Bolton News reports that the three-month Operation Giant scheme saw 16 vehicles seized for being without car insurance or road tax.
It may be that those who picked up motoring convictions now find it difficult to strike a cheap cover deal for their car.
This is because car insurance companies may see them as a high risk and a hazard on the road.
Sergeant Brian Orr commented that officers from the constabulary "could be absolutely anywhere in Bolton as part of this operation".
Meanwhile, research from Abbey has highlighted the potential embarrassment involved in having a car seized by authorities.
According to the firm, some 18 per cent of people use their vehicles as a place in which to store Christmas presents.
