03 December 2007 Vehicle crime results in Somerset police warning

Cars should be secure in Somerset. Police in Somerset have warned people in the region to make sure their vehicles are secure when they leave them following a series of thefts.

Some 23 instances of attempted theft have taken place in the area since last Monday, according to the Avon and Somerset constabulary.

It may be that those who fall victim to vehicle crime may find that their car insurance policies suffer as a result.

This could be in the form of increasing cost, due to cover companies assessing them to be a bigger risk, or by paying out to avoid making a claim.

According to the body, those who park in well-lit areas and make sure vehicles are locked before leaving them can help reduce the chances of being targeted.

Meanwhile, figures from the Home Office show that the amount of automobile-related crime has fallen 51 per cent since 1997.
