30 November 2007 Brake looks to curb young driver deaths
The number of deaths and injuries on roads in Cheshire is to be addressed by road safety organisation Brake. In conjunction with Cheshire county council, officials from the group will host presentations to sixth-form students at Falibroome High School in Macclesfield.
Some 222 people between the ages of 15 and 25 died due to traffic collisions in the region during 2005, according to Brake.
And it may be that the new scheme helps young people save on their car insurance policies as well as their lives.
"I hope that by teaching young people about the consequences of speeding, drink and drug driving and not belting up, I can make a real difference to road safety in Cheshire," said Brake's Sarah Collins.
Earlier this week, the road safety body stated that more than half of UK drivers do not know their vehicle's legally-required tread depth.
