29 November 2007 Manchester motorists warned against theft
People driving in the Greater Manchester area have been warned to make sure they are not giving thieves the chance to steal valuables from their vehicles.According to the BBC, 12 motorists in Stockport have already fallen victim to criminals because they have left keys in unattended vehicles.
Break-ins can have a serious effect on a car insurance policy, as firms may refuse to offer cheap deals to those who have been targeted in the past.
Detective Constable Glen Draper of Stockport CID commented that people need to help themselves if they want to avoid be made victims.
He said: "By ensuring that keys are not left easily accessible through letterboxes or windows, the public can help us to reduce offences even further."
Motorists in the region are underestimating the thinking distance involved in a traffic collision, new research from the Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety has found, which may cause them to have accidents in the future.
