27 November 2007 Off-road motorists watched in Wales
Police in Wales are keeping a close eye on those motorists who choose to drive in off-road areas, a national news report claims.A joint project between Dyfed-Powys Police and the Countryside Council for Wales is looking to reduce the activity - sometimes known as green laning - and keep the countryside clean, the BBC states.
This means that those looking to avoid compromising their car insurance policy by receiving a conviction may consider staying away from remote tracks in the country.
"We will be providing information and education to local residents, businesses and visitors to the area to ensure that people know where they can legally go," commented Superintendent Steve Hughson from Dyfed-Powys Police.
Association of British Drivers research has found that 35 per cent of drivers in Wales who pick up motoring convictions are caught via speed cameras.
However, three-quarters of people commented that the devices make them feel less aware of road hazards.
