22 November 2007 Motor body urges drivers to park well

Better parking may reduce accidents A drivers' body has called upon motorists to improve their parking in order to avoid picking up scrapes.

GEM Motoring Assist has commented that one-third of company car users make claims based on incidents occurring at the sites.

Chief executive of the firm David Williams advised people to reverse into spaces as it allows them great visibility and more time when they come to leave.

He added: "If you drive slowly when looking for a parking space it will give you an extra few seconds when you spot a gap to signal to any following car, drive past the space and reverse into it."

It may be that following such advice sees drivers save on their motor insurance policies, as cover companies rarely offer cheaper deals to those with a history of poor performance on the road.

Meanwhile, Boston motorists will pay a reduced parking rate of 60p per hour from Sundays to Tuesdays, according to the Boston Standard.
