22 November 2007 Road officials reveal drink-driving figures in south-west Scotland

Officials in south-west Scotland have revealed the region's drink-driving statistics Authorities in south-west Scotland will be stepping up a gear over the next month in order to catch out those who continue to drink and drive, it has been reported.

The News & Star states that there have been 300 motorists found inebriated on the road by officers in the region so far this year.

Sergeant Scott MacLachlan from the Road Policing Unit has told the source that officials in the area do not approach the issue lightly.

"As we lead up to the annual festive drink [and] drug-driving campaign I would again warn drivers that we take drink-driving extremely seriously," he said.

It may be that a motoring conviction has a serious effect on a car insurance policy, as cover companies often view those with a poor road history as a hazard and charge them accordingly.

This year's Department for Transport drink-driving campaign will be aimed primarily at young men between 17 and 29, the body has stated.
