19 November 2007 Police issues fines to bus lane travelers

Bus lane drivers targeted Officers in Norfolk have clamped down on the number of drivers travelling in bus lanes throughout the region, it has been reported.

According to the Norfolk Eastern Daily Press, 105 people were given £30 notices during one day of a three-part operation.

It added that some 242 motorists picked up convictions with penalties worth a total of £10,410 over the course of the initiative.

As a result, these drivers may find that they face higher car insurance policies as firms often base quotes on recent road history.

Sergeant Graham Dalton stated that the bus lanes exist for good reason.

He said: "The restrictions are there to ease congestion, encourage people to consider using other forms of transport and to provide cyclists with a safer route."

Meanwhile, the Association of British Drivers has stated that it believes bus lanes to be hazardous to drivers and that they increase journey times.
