19 November 2007 Laser device brought in to catch out speeders

Drivers are using laser technology to curb speeders Police in Eastbourne are employing laser technology as the latest tool in the fight against speeders in the area, a local news source has reported.

The Eastbourne Herald has commented that officials have made this move due to demand from local residents.

By tracking speeds using a laser device, officers can convict those breaking the law with greater accuracy and efficiency.

Furthermore, this could have an effect on car insurance policies, as cover companies may refuse to offer a cheaper policy to a driver with a history of motor convictions.

"This device will be of huge benefit to officers in the fight to reduce the number of drivers who ignore speed limits," said PC Martin Theelke from the local constabulary.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that speed cameras in Solihull have been attacked by local vandals.

The Birmingham Mail has commented that the town has one of the worst records for criminal damage in the region.
