16 November 2007 Motorists use Facebook to boycott costly fuel
Drivers in the UK aggrieved by the current price of petrol have voiced their displeasure through social networking site Facebook, it has been reported.According to UTalkMarketing, they have gone as far as to set up a group, No Fuel Day - 19 November 2007, in which it invites motorists to snub fuel for a day in protest.
Some 145,000 motorists have signed up so far, possibly annoyed with costs in addition to high car insurance and road tax bills.
Henry Ellis, who heads the social media division for Tamar, commented that companies should be using networking sites to understand public reaction.
"The failure by the fuel giants to communicate their reasons for price increases to the Facebook community is a warning to others who will need to engage with the public on this contentious issue to avoid losing public support," he said.
Meanwhile, Facebook's popularity is on the rise in Israel, where it has been reported that member rates have increased by 100 per cent since mid-October.
