15 November 2007 Ford partners with police 'to reduce auto crime impact'

Officers are to receive a helping hand from Ford. Car manufacturer Ford has teamed up with the police in order to bring down the number of vehicle crime incidents this year.

The company has announced that it will distribute its new T350 transit, specially-developed for investigative officers, to the force.

A mobile security display unit, alloy wheel marking equipment and a PA system are all included in the vehicle.

Those with car insurance may be hoping that the automobile saves them from making a car insurance claim over the winter period.

Inspector Jonathan Baldwin of Essex Police stated that the reason behind the team-up "is to reduce the impact" of theft against vehicles.

He said: "We believe that working with companies such as Ford within crime reduction partnership agreements will help take these criminals off the road and reduce their ability to commit crime."

Meanwhile, Home Office figures show that there has been a 51 per cent drop in vehicle-related offences since 1997.
