15 November 2007 Roads advice 'taken by women more than men'

Women will listen to road advice more, apparently. Women on the road are more likely to take heed of weather warnings than men, according to new research.

The Highways Agency has revealed that while 38 of males would listen to motoring advice, 56 per cent of females would comply.

Age is also a factor, as the body revealed that 40 per cent of people responding to the survey who were over 65 commented that they would still go on their trips, despite weather warnings, compared to 65 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds.

Research like this may be part of the reason why car insurance companies usually draw up cheaper deals to female drivers.

"The Highways Agency is offering a timely reminder to road users to plan their journeys and listen out for weather warnings," commented road safety minister Jim Fitzpatrick.

At the next general election, Mr Fitzpatrick will stand against Respect Party politician George Galloway for the Poplar and Limehouse seat.
