14 November 2007 Cost of petrol up in Huntingdonshire
Motorists in Huntingdonshire are having to dip further into their pockets in order to cover the increasing cost of petrol in the area, a local news source states. The Hunts Post comments that the price of a litre of fuel is now more than £1, even at supermarket forecourts which have been traditionally cheaper.
Pat Nicholson of the Professional Drivers Association stated that this could have a significant effect on long-distance drivers in the region.
"What is certain is that haulage firms are being driven out of business by the ever-spiralling price of petrol," said the spokesperson.
In addition to increased fuel costs, companies may also have to contend with high van insurance prices and road tax.
The Spalding Guardian has commented that a similar problem has hit hauliers and garages in South Holland.
"Prices are still going up. The unleaded is the highest it has ever been," commented Derek Thorpe, local garage owner.
