02 November 2007 Councils challenged over 'illegal parking tickets'
A motorist protest group has challenged councils in the south of England over parking tickets said to be illegal.Drivers' body AppealNow.com has stated that notices given out in the Camden, Lambeth and Westminster regions do not properly display the issue date - technically making them invalid.
Group founder Barrie Segal stated that a large volume of motorists have been affected by this - costing "millions of pounds".
Indeed, any refunded money may be helpful for drivers struggling to pay car insurance and road tax bills.
He commented: "I believe that the illegality that I have found is the tip of the iceberg."
This comes as figures from the government have shown that the number of people caught by Gatsos in the UK has fallen.
Similarly, the number of people taking to the road without an MOT or driving licence has fallen, while parking offences have also gone down.
