29 October 2007 Baby Boomers 'head for the sun'
People born in post-war Britain are taking to travelling the world once they reach their 50s.According to Bradford & Bingley research, 48 per cent of Baby Boomers regret not going abroad more over the course of their lives, with 18 per cent commenting that they would have liked to have lived or worked overseas.
The survey shows that this generation is now making up for lost time, as the age group accounts for 35 per cent of all travellers.
As a result, it may be that the older adventurers are also contributing to the travel insurance industry.
Bradford and Bingley head of savings Paul Whitlock stated that people in their 50s are looking to fulfil leftover ambitions.
He said: "It appears many over-55s do have something they regret, but in most cases it is not too late to do something about it ... whether this be [to] travel to exciting destinations or making a more permanent move abroad."
Earlier this month, Prudential research found that Baby Boomers are cashing in on property equity in order to pay off debts.
