24 October 2007 Motorists vote M25 Britain's worst road

Britain's worst road, aparently. A new survey of drivers in the UK has put the M25 at the bottom of the pile when it comes to favourite roads.

The highway ranked last in the poll by satellite navigation manufacturer Garmin with long tailbacks cited as one reason why it is not liked, along with a high accident risk - something which could affect a car insurance policy.

Motorists also stated that the Spaghetti Junction and the M6 close to Birmingham were found to be among Britain's worst roads.

London was ranked as drivers' least favourite city to drive in, singling out the North Circular road as a particularly unpopular route.

Conversely, countryside areas in Cumbria, Devon and Scotland were deemed the most pleasant.

"The stunning scenery, challenging twists and turns and almost traffic-free driving on these roads are ideal for an enjoyable and relaxing journey," said Garmin's Claire Carter.

Stretching 409 miles, the A1 is the longest numbered highway in Britain.
