18 October 2007 Women drivers 'picking up better car insurance deals'

Same-gender insurance may not be cheaper Female drivers in the UK are receiving much cheaper car insurance policies than those offered to the opposite sex, according to new findings.

The Mail on Sunday has reported that research from price comparison website uSwitch.com shows women are less likely to be involved in an accident on the road than men.

It added that this may well be the reasoning behind a number of car insurance companies being set up specifically for females, while some cover companies actively promote gender-based deals.

However, just because some firms cater specifically to them does not mean the firms possess the best offers, commented website spokesperson Ashton Berkhauer.

"Women drivers should always shop around and look at all insurers, not just those targeting women, in order to get the best car cover," he said.

Meanwhile, a competition in Exmouth saw young drivers show off their driving prowess for the chance of a £1,000 car insurance discount, the Exmouth Journal has reported.
