17 October 2007 Accident reduction called for by Suffolk official
Suffolk police officers are to clamp down on drivers in the area who are driving dangerously on local roads, according to a newspaper in the region. The East Anglian Daily Times has reported that Chief Inspector Martin Barnes-Smith believes people should take "every precaution" to avoid an accident.
Indeed, a collision while behind the wheel could result in loss of life or motorists compromising their car insurance deals.
Over the course of August this year, 464 people were caught travelling over the speed limit and 88 were found to be above the drink-drive limit, the news source added.
"We want to see a reduction in the number of casualties on our roads, so remember to belt up, slow down, don't drink drive or use your mobile phone and throughout winter please take extra care," said the official.
Meanwhile, statistics from the Department for Transport show that some 3,150 people died on UK roads during 2006.
