16 October 2007 Choice available for October rogue motorists
People breaking the law on Buckinghamshire roads during October will be given a choice as to the nature of their punishment, it has been reported.A new initiative from the local county council has seen the body team up with the Thames Valley Safer Roads Partnership in order to put together the strategy.
It involves letting drivers choose to pay a £60 fine with a three-point penalty or take an educational course on the dangers of bad road behaviour.
In order to catch out the rogue motorists, officers have set up roadside checks.
Drivers who flout the law may find that their car insurance policies become compromised, as cover companies might consider their actions to be hazardous on the roads.
"By carrying out these roadside checks we hope to make a difference to the way people think before driving each day," said cabinet minister for transportation Valerie Letheren.
The Halifax Evening Courier has commented that there has been an increase in drivers in the area wearing their seatbelts.
