12 October 2007 Motorists 'may be at risk without spare wheel'
Cars which do not have a spare wheel installed may prove to be dangerous for a number of drivers, according to a motor industry publication.Research from Auto Express found that automobiles from Volvo, Honda and Ford are often sold without the extra wheel.
This could be disastrous if a motorist were to suffer an accident, as they may be forced to risk their car insurance policy and drive home with a flat tyre.
Even the smaller wheels that some companies offer as a spare may not be enough, the publication added.
"If there is no alternative, motorway drivers have to wait on the hard shoulder for a replacement - one of the most dangerous places to be," said David Johns, editor of Auto Express.
This month is National Tyre Safety Month, a road awareness scheme inviting motorists to think about their wheels, run by TyreSafe.
