10 October 2007 Fife crackdown reveals rogue driver problem

Fife Police 'disappointed with clampdown' A Scottish police force has called recent rogue driver statistics "disappointing".

Fife Police's Road Policing Department found motorists both young and old breaking the law during an August and September crackdown against bad road behaviour.

Some 13 people between the ages of 17 and 24 were found to be using their mobile phones behind the wheel, with 36 older people caught out.

It may be that people with motoring convictions find it more difficult to take out a car insurance policy in the future than those who do not.

The force added that 86 young motorists were cautioned for speeding, compared to 144 drivers over the age of 25.

Fife Police Chief Inspector Alex Duncan has commented on his anguish at the figures.

"The number of young persons being detected for offences is particularly disappointing, given the degree of coverage in the media regarding the campaign," said the official.

Police officers in Fife have announced that they are currently investigating a road rage attack close to the Coaltown of Balgonie area.
