10 October 2007 Hotspot speeders cautioned by Berkshire officers

Officers in Berkshire have cracked down on speeders A well-known area for accidents in Berkshire has been targeted as part of a police crackdown against rogue motorists, it has been reported.

The Nine Mile Ride stretch saw 34 drivers picked up by police, with nine being handed three-point licence penalties in addition to a £60 fine, according to the Reading Chronicle.

Such a conviction may make it difficult for people to pick up cheaper car insurance policies in the future as cover companies may find them a hazard on the road.

A similar operation on Finchampstead Road saw 15 caught and three face fines, necessary action according to PC Julian Weal from the Three Mile Cross roads policing unit.

He commented: "Although the speed limit on these roads is 30 mph we've had a number of collisions resulting in injury in the past three years."

Meanwhile, Department for Transport figures show that close to 3,000 road accidents each year are due to drink-driving.
