09 October 2007 Millions in shopping 'wasted by Britons'
Drivers in the UK are damaging millions of pounds worth of shopping by transporting it home negligently, it has been reported.According to research from automaker Chevrolet, £350 million in groceries is wasted by motorists not storing items correctly.
This may also have an effect on car insurance policies as a stray glass bottle or jar could smash and cause problems inside a vehicle.
Yet 65 per cent told the car manufacturer they prefer to store goods in the back of the car rather than the boot.
Similarly, 26 per cent admitted that they had broken at least one item on the way home from the shops.
"Busy lifestyles often mean that taking the time to store grocery shopping properly in the car can take a back seat, quite literally. The lack of care put into preventing shopping casualties is surprising," said Les Turton, Chevrolet spokesperson.
Motorists in West Yorkshire will soon be able to use new signs to keep informed of their location in the event of a breakdown, the Bradford Telegraph Argus has commented.
