08 October 2007 Young drivers 'breaking speed limit regularly'

Youngsters on the road are breaking the limit regularly Most young people on the road are breaking the speed limit on a regular basis when they drive through urban areas, according to new research.

Brake has stated that motorists under the age of 25 often breach the 30 mph limit.

Car insurance for inexperienced people may be more expensive due to this activity, as cover companies consider young drivers more of a road hazard.

It added that a person hit by a vehicle travelling at 35 mph was twice as likely to die than if they were in a collision at 30 mph.

Brake head of education Jools Townsend stated that something needs to be done about this.

"This research serves as further indication that action must be taken to stop deadly risk-taking among young drivers ... breaking limits by just a few miles per hour can be lethal," the official commented.

Meanwhile, motorists who are looking to bring down the price of their car insurance policies may consider a Pass Plus course, which will also see them collect more road experience.
