08 October 2007 Some 137 Northamptonshire vehicles 'risking theft'
Those who wish to avoid becoming the victim of vehicle theft should consider changing their ways when it comes to what they leave on display, officials in Northamptonshire have commented.According to the Northampton Evening Times, Wellingborough officers found 137 automobiles with expensive items on display inside when they checked three local car parks.
Motorists risk their car insurance policies if they make their vehicle prone to criminal activity, with local officer Police Constable Samantha Colton calling the number doing this "staggering".
She added: "They leave sat navs, phones, expensive jackets, music systems and bags in the car when left unattended and this is a clear invitation for opportunist thieves to break in."
This warning comes as figures from the Home Office show that while there has been a 51 per cent drop in vehicle crime since 1997, there were still 1.7 million incidents between 2005 and 2006.
