04 October 2007 Speeding crackdown sees Oxfordshire motorists punished
Oxfordshire officials have cracked down on those speeding on the region's roads, a local newspaper has reported.Targeting a road well-known for its poor accident record - the A329 between Stadhampton and Little Milton - officers punished any drivers found over the legal limit, according to the Oxford Mail.
Over the last six years there have been 12 collisions reported on the stretch, it added, potentially damaging their car insurance policies in the process.
Motorists with a speeding conviction may find it difficult to take out cover in the future as some companies consider them a greater risk on the roads.
This may prove to be the case for drivers issued with fixed penalty notices by police during the initiative.
Last week, Oxford crown court sentenced Britain's fastest-ever speeder to a ten-month jail term.
Timothy Brady was caught by police while driving at 172 mph.
