04 October 2007 Budget cuts 'will see Norfolk roads suffer'

Roads in Norfolk may suffer due to budgetary restraints Roads in the Norfolk region on the country may not be of the same standard soon due to a cut in government funding, a local news source has reported.

Some £7.7 million has been knocked from the amount being spent on the area's highways, a decision which may also put people's lives in danger if the roads fall into disrepair, the Norwich Evening News commented.

It may be that the move also sees motorists putting their car insurance policies in jeopardy, as the risk of an accident could increase.

"This could have a really serious impact. A £2.5m drop each year would mean less money for resurfacing the main roads and obviously more pot holes developing," said cabinet member for planning and transportation at Norfolk county council Adrian Gunson.

Also in the area, the same news source has revealed that 1,000 extra people are driving without motor insurance compared with figures from six years ago.
