03 October 2007 Cheshire police urge motorists to 'stay on guard' over car crime

Cheshire police urge motorists to lock up A spate of vehicle crimes in the Cheshire region has led to the local police force issuing a warning to motorists.

There were around 50 incidents against cars and vans reported to officers in the Ellesmere Port and Neston areas in September.

In order to combat the behaviour, drivers have been warned that they should make sure their cars are locked if they are to avoid being made a victim.

Car insurance policies can also increase in price if an area if considered to be dangerous by cover companies, so the advice is worth heeding.

"It's clear we have a number of offenders who are actively targeting vehicles. They are heading out intent on breaking into cars and stealing them or from them," PC Sian Jones commented.

Meanwhile, figures from the Home Office show that 20 per cent of all crimes recorded between 2005 and 2006 involved a vehicle.
