03 October 2007 Honesty at garages 'top of the agenda for motorists'

Honesty is key when it comes to garages, say Reading drivers The majority of drivers believe that they should not be kept in the dark by mechanics over any issues relating to their cars, according to new research.

Findings from the Good Garage Scheme in Reading show that 61 per cent of its 2,000-plus members believe this issue to be top priority for establishments.

Of similar importance for people was friendly staff, as 39 per cent cited it as a reason they would return to such a business.

Rachel Roberts, marketing manager for the group, espoused the importance of good customer relations for people in the motor trade.

"This survey shows there's just no substitute for excellent service and good manners. The extra little touches that some garages might deem most important aren't necessarily the ones they'd like to see," she said.

Reading drivers already paying car insurance fees may be aggrieved to learn that the local council is generating £58,225 per month in bus lane fines, according to the BBC.
