03 October 2007 Learners 'driving locals crazy' in Preston

Residents are annoyed with learners in Preston Driving instructors using a residential area of Preston to teach their students how to drive are starting to annoy local people in the area, it has been reported.

The Lancashire Evening Post has stated that Dowdney Drive in Lea has become overpopulated with learners.

It added that up to seven students practice their three-point turns, reverse parking and reversing round a corner moves on the street each hour.

For one local grandmother, instructors slamming their doors are causing her to jump every time.

"Once or twice may be annoying but, when this happens every hour of every day, it is hard to tell who is driving who round the bend," commented local councillor Julie Buttle.

A person can begin working towards their full driving licence once they reach the age of 17.

However, they may find it difficult to take out car insurance due to insurers perceiving them to be a hazard on the roads.
