02 October 2007 HA launches new weather alerts to keep drivers safe
The Highways Agency (HA) is to implement a new weather alerts safety system in order to keep drivers up to date with conditions on the road.Developed in conjunction with the Freight Transport Association and Road Haulage Association, the measure has been installed by the body to inform motorists of particularly dangerous areas.
Traffic operations director for the HA Derek Turner stated there was a need for this and that the group was "very aware" of the risks involved in driving during bad weather.
It may be that people on the road find that they save on their car and van insurance policies by employing the system to avoid hazards.
Indeed, last year some 3,150 fatalities were recorded on UK roads.
The official added: "[The system] is a result of the close working relationship that we have with both the Freight Transport Association and the Road Haulage Association."
