02 October 2007 Drivers 'may be at risk on Preston roads at full capacity'

Preston roads are full Motorists in Preston may find that they are all too often becoming stuck on overcrowded roads, according to a local news source.

The major and minor roads in the area are struggling to contain motorists in the city due to a large volume of maintenance work being undertaken, the Lancashire Evening Post has commented.

An increasingly busy highway may become more dangerous, with people struggling to keep their car insurance policies intact.

Dave Taylor, traffic management officer for police in Preston, stated that the roads are struggling to cope with the amount of activity.

"Even the smallest shunt or a car breakdown can quickly lead to long delays because the roads simply were not built to cope with so much traffic," the official said.

This comes as the same news source has revealed that the Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety is to double the number of speed camera sites in the region.
