01 October 2007 Road dissatisfaction highlighted in Northumberland survey
Highways in one area of the UK are not to the requirements of some local motorists, it has been stated.According to a survey of close to 400 drivers in south-east Northumberland, a number of people are unhappy with the state of the roads, the News Post Leader has found.
This may be a particular problem for those looking to keep their car insurance no-claims bonus intact, as the roads could cause them to become involved in an accident.
But highways chief Dick Fraser commented that the criticism aimed at the region's road maintenance may be misjudged.
He said: "For our response times, we aim to repair spine roads within two to three hours and quieter roads within 24 hours of notification."
Official statistics show that there were some 1,627 fixed penalty notices issued to motorists in the Northumbria area for phone-related offences over the last six months.
