25 September 2007 August vehicle production figures show sharp increase
The number of vehicles produced in British factories in August 2007 was up sharply against the amount manufactured in the same month of 2006, it has been reported.Figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show that there were 37.3 per cent more cars and vans made in the UK last month than there were in the same period a year earlier.
Including the 100,200 produced in August, the total number of vehicles rolling out of factories so far in 2007 is 994,229, the body added.
Therefore it may be that there is an increase in the number of car insurance policies being bought, as consumers look to cover the new automobiles once they hit dealerships.
"August is usually a quiet month for vehicle production due to holiday working patterns, but this year it saw the best volume output since 2002," said SMMT chief executive Christopher Macgowan.
Earlier this month, Mr Macgowan said a number of politicians were pursuing environmental issues as part of "the hunt for a good soundbite".
