21 September 2007 Cyclist calls for speed limit reassessment
A cycling campaigner believes the speed limits of roads in Harlow should be reconsidered, a news provider in the area has stated.Over the past decade, there have been 25 road deaths in the town, with five occurring in the First Avenue and Gilden Way area, the Harlow Herald has reported.
Motorists may have also felt the impact of these accidents in their car insurance policies, which can increase if a region is deemed dangerous by insurers.
John Curry, campaign manager for the Cycling Tourists Club, has commented that the statistics are not good enough.
"I think a reduction in speed limits in the right places will be beneficial to the town," he said.
This comes as the sister of a boy killed in a cycling accident has spoken out about the dangers of the road, according to the Peterborough Evening Telegraph.
Mikaela Roebuck-Wilson has urged all bike riders to wear helmets when travelling.
