19 September 2007 Leicestershire officers to put brakes on speeding

Police clamping down on speeders. Police community support officers (PCSOs) in Leicestershire are looking to crack down on speeding in the Hinckley area during September 2007.

The constabulary has commented that it will be keeping problem areas under close watch and enforcing the law when necessary.

Motorists in the area who want to keep their car insurance no-claims bonus intact may consider reassessing their own road usage as a result.

According to PCSO Carolyn Sanders, offenders can pick up a fixed penalty notice for their actions.

"Sites that are selected will be monitored for speeding and police will be dealing with drivers who are seen to be committing traffic offences. These include using mobile phones whilst driving," she said.

From February 27th 2007, new legislation has seen motorists found talking on a handheld mobile phone hit with a £60 fine - increased from £30.

In addition, drivers can also pick up a three-point licence penalty.
