18 September 2007 Website urges drivers to beep bad road workers

A disgruntled motorist has set up a website in order to get drivers to protest against lazy road workers, it has been reported.

According to What Car?, Hoot the Roadworks was set up by Giles Marriot, 23, from Essex, after he was punished for travelling at 47 mph on an area of the M1 where the limit had been cut to 40 mph due to road works.

However, the area should have been fully reopened as the maintenance was scheduled to finish earlier.

And car insurance customers may acquiesce with Mr Marriot's calls to beep all road workers who are not completing their jobs on time.

He said: "No commercial business would ever disrupt their customers in the way that the government disrupts road users. We pay enough money each year to have roads we can use."

Drivers using the A170 at Sutton Bank near Thirsk should be made aware that the BBC has reported the road is to be closed until Friday 21st September 2007.
