13 September 2007 Motorists swamp bad driver phone line
The success of a new phone line set up to catch out rogue drivers on the road has "overwhelmed" police, it has been reported.A high number of road rage, drink-driving and anti-social behaviour incidents have been recorded by the service since it was set up on August 28th, 2007, the Argus stated.
Careless and dangerous behaviour on the roads - which can have a damaging effect on a car insurance policy - has been reported 63 times since the phone line's establishment, the news source added.
"We didn't realise how productive it would be. Operation Crackdown will play a key part in reducing the numbers killed and seriously injured on the road. It is about risk management," said Superintendent Paul Morrison.
This comes as figures from the Department for Transport show that 3,150 people were killed on roads around the UK in 2006, compared to 3,201 in 2005.
