12 September 2007 Women 'fall for smarts'
The new smart fortwo will be snapped up in droves by women - the vehicle's largest customer group, it has been claimed.Mercedes Car Group UK has commented that females of any age will purchase the model.
Taking out car insurance on the vehicle may also be cheaper for women, as a number of insurers view the sex to be less hazardous on the road.
While women will usually go for the smaller model, men typically prefer to get behind the wheel of a high performance vehicle like the Brabus, the company added.
"If people want more than two seats they will buy something else, but the marketplace is moving towards cars of this nature due to congestion and green issues," said Ian Dutfield, marketing director for the Mercedes Car Group in the UK.
Based in Boblingen, Germany, smart has produced superminis and microcars since 1997.
