12 September 2007 Cambridgeshire drivers' 'difficulty with deers'
A type of deer found in Cambridgeshire has strayed along local roads, causing problems for motorists, it has been reported. The Q103 Cambridge has stated that the Muntjac breed has been found wandering along highways in the area.
Should they get close to moving vehicles, an accident could see them seriously hurt. Similarly, motorists with car insurance policies may find that the premiums become compromised in the event of a crash.
Indeed, Muntjacs are tarmac-like in colour and may be difficult to spot should one veer into a driver's path.
Local residents are now campaigning to have signs erected in order to warn motorists of the activity.
The Muntjac variety of deer is thought to be the oldest in the world, possibly as old as 35 million years.
Asia is where the species is most common, although Reeves' Muntjac has been introduced to parts of England.
