11 September 2007 Filling stations falling in numbers in London
A series of petrol station closures in London may mean that some drivers will find it difficult to fill up in future.Oil industry organisation Catalist has revealed that around a third of the capital's filling sites have closed over the last five years, according to the BBC.
It added that in 2006 some 35 facilities were closed, meaning car insurance customers may have to venture into the unknown to find a petrol station.
But customers should not be alarmed by the drop in sites, said a spokesman for the group.
The representative commented: "Our petrol station network is becoming sustainable and at the levels we are approaching now you will see a reduction in closures."
Earlier this year, drivers in the south of England were hit by a fuel contamination crisis which left a number of cars damaged.
