10 September 2007 Car insurance dodgers 'may have vehicles crushed'
Cars found to be without a motor insurance policy may be crushed by authorities in East Sussex, according to a news website. The local council teamed up with the police and fire services as well as the Driver and Vehicle Licencing Agency for the three-day crackdown on drivers behaving badly, The Argus has stated.
Some 50 cars were seized for not observing the rules of the road and may now be crushed, it added.
"This operation has been a tremendous success in removing unsightly vehicles that are a real nuisance to local communities as well as a potential danger," said lead councillor for community in the area David Gray.
Drivers may choose to forego a car insurance policy due to high prices that can be incurred by young and inexperienced motorists.
However, if they are caught out they face punishment in the form of fines and licence point penalties.
