07 September 2007 Actor lends weight to road safety campaign
A road safety campaign in Scotland has received support from a source that may be considered unlikely.Robbie Coltrane, star of television series Cracker, has backed calls from two grieving parents in the country to tighten up regulation over young people driving.
Ken and Christine Foster lost their 19-year-old daughter Emma after a crash involving another teenage road user.
It may be that some car insurance companies cannot offer cheap policies to inexperienced drivers as they are considered a greater road hazard.
Now Coltrane, a self-confessed car enthusiast, has voiced his opinion on young people's behaviour on the road.
"I have always loved to drive but we did not have small, standard cars that would reach 100 mph. Nor did we have enormously powerful, distracting sound systems in our cars," the actor said in a letter to the couple.
This news may come as a surprise to viewers who have seen Coltrane appear on screen opposite one of the world's most famous car enthusiasts - James Bond.
